致中国电动车行业的新年问候

          1997年我第一次来到中国研究电动车时，花了一周的时间在上海的马路上寻找一个骑电动车的人，最终我只找到了一个。

      1997年我们都想知道这个产业是否充满前景。当时技术问题使人信心受挫，市场又如此之小。

      今天，中国领导人的英明和中国劳动者的活力使电动车行业成长为令人惊叹的大产业。电动车现在已成为世界上第四大交通工具，而且正在飞速成长。

      当我写这篇文章时，我向住在上海的宾馆窗外望去，每分钟都会有许多电动车经过。源源不断的车流展现了电动车行业的成功。

      但我们的未来不仅仅是中国，而是整个世界。

      石油的价格，对无污染交通工具的需求以及人类城市化进程的加剧需要新的交通工具?电动车。

      我们步入了充满希望的一年。我们的商业成功不仅在帮助我们自己和我们的家人?更在帮助我们身边的人和整个世界拥有更美好的生活，并通过延缓全球变暖缓解交通拥挤和降低对石油的依赖来减少人类对地球的影响。

     我在此谨向中国电动车行业致意！

      The first time I came to China to study electric bicycles (1997), I spent one week looking in Shanghai for anyone riding an electric bike on the street. I found just one such rider.

      In 1997, we all wondered if this industry had a future. The technical problems were so frustrating, and the market so small.

      Today, thanks to the wisdom of Chinese leaders and planners, and the vigor of Chinese workers ?C ebikes are an amazing large business. Now the 4th largest group of vehicles in the world and growing very fast.

      As I write this, I am looking out my hotel window in Shanghai, where dozens of electric bikes pass my hotel every minute. A constant flow of success for the ebike industry.

      But our future is not just China, it is the entire world.

     The cost of oil, the need for non polluting transport, and the increasing urbanization of all of human kind require new transportation tools ?C ebikes.
We enter a very bright year. Not only do we help ourselves and our families with our business success ?C we help our neighbors and the entire world to have a better life and to reduce man kind’s impact on the planet by reducing global warming, traffic congestion, and reliance on oil.

      My compliments to the ebike industry of China!
